Antique Victorian Shield Hair Mourning Ring 9 Carat Yellow Gold

A beautiful antique Victorian hair mourning ring crafted in solid 9 carat yellow gold. The centrepiece of this lovely ring is a shield intricately hand engraved with a monogram, possibly MV which adds a personalised touch to the piece. The band is made up of woven hairwork and detailed engraved gold panels showcasing the artistry and attention to detail of its era. Hairwork was a skilled and traditional Victorian practice used as a way to remember loved ones with the plaited hair around the shank adding a poignant connection to a departed loved one. The inscription on the inside of this ring reads "In memory of Mother, 18th Nov 1899" serving as a constant reminder of the enduring bond between mother and child. In very good antique condition with minimal light wear. All hairwork is in wonderful condition and well preserved. Unmarked but tests as 9ct gold. This beautiful mourning ring encapsulates a bygone era of sentimental craftsmanship serving as both a cherished memento and testament to the enduring power of love and remembrance.
